Macao launches film event

The first Macao International Movie Festival will run for eight days starting Dec 26. More than 100 films from China and abroad will compete for six awards, including best picture, director, screenplay, actor, actress and new performer. The organizing committee seeks more candidates before Nov 15. Beloved actor Ge You (pictured) will lead the jury, and director You Xiaogang will serve as the special consultant. The festival will also provide a platform for copyright licensing. Highlights include an opening ceremony featuring a flower parade, a forum on Chinese kungfu films and an expo of international film, TV and animation works, and peripheral products. It is the first time for the special administrative region to hold an international film festival since the former European colony was returned to China in 1999. |
