MEXICO CITY -- French cyclist Jean-Philippe Meret bettered on Tuesday the world record of the One Hour Performance Master 3 for category 35-39 in Mexico City by riding 45.521 km.

"I already had the record, but I thought I have not trained enough then, that is why now I trained three months, specifically to get this mark," said Meret, who had expected to complete 184 laps in the indoor velodrome of the National Center of Talenots and High Level Development (CNAR) for a distance of 46km.

Meret, 39, broke his own mark of 44.838km set on September 15, 2006 in Manchester, England.

However, his new record will not be recognized by the International Cycling Union (UCI) because the CNAR velodrome is not certificated.

Meret and his coach Jean Pierre Demonois stood out the quality of the velodrome, vowing to surpass the mark at the cement velodrome of the Mexican Olympic Sports Center, also in Mexico City.
