Beijing sees snowfall in May

Beijing's temperature became one of the hottest topics on social media platform Sina Weibo, with the capital experiencing the coldest May as the highest temperature barely reached 13 degree Celsius on May 10.

The temperature broke the record of 13.4 degree Celsius set in May 1951, according to the Legal Evening News.

On May 9, a Weibo account named Qixiangqiao, identified as the head of the Beijing Meteorological Observatory, posted photos of snowfall in the hilly area of northwest Beijing, and said the snow would continue.

The topic has been viewed two million times with 5,200 comments as of 12:30 pm. A microblogger, named Shenyuwei-, said: "Survived the freezing winter and cool spring, but lost to early summer."
