Festival turns scarecrows into Minions, SpongeBob

Scarecrows can not only be farmers' best helper to scare birds away from the farmland, but can also be fun art with characters.

A countryside jackstraw art festival has started in Dali, Yunnan province on Thursday. Harvested straws are made into houses, cartoon characters and different buildings.

Visitors come to the festival and take picture with cartoon figures such as Minions, Totoro and SpongeBob made of straws.

There are workshops available for visitors to create their own scarecrows.
