ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf says he will set up a foundation to help students from poor families with proceeds from his bestselling autobiography "In the Line of Fire".

"I dedicated this book to the people of Pakistan, so therefore, the money that I earn is for the people of Pakistan," he told a news conference after dining with journalists to break fast -- the daily ritual in Muslim nations during the holy month of Ramadan.

He added he wanted to set up a technical institute for poor students.

Musharraf said of his controversial decision to write his autobiography while in office: "Obviously one does something like this when you are at the peak. The world has interest in me that's why I've done it now."

The book was launched in the United States on September 25 and Musharraf said he had yet to receive any royalties but was due a 15 percent cut under the contract.
