China proposes resuming N. Korea talks

Seoul - China has proposed resuming six-nation talks on North Korea's nuclear program on Dec. 16, a South Korean news agency reported Saturday.

But the United States and North Korea have not formally agreed to the date, Yonhap news agency said, citing unidentified diplomatic sources.

Japan's Kyodo news agency carried a similar report, saying all parties had agreed to the Beijing-proposed date.

The nuclear talks, involving China, Japan, the two Koreas, Russia and the United States, have been stalled since November 2005 because the North has refused to attend in anger over US financial restrictions for Pyongyang's alleged financial crimes.

But the country agreed in October to resume the negotiations after conducting its first-ever nuclear test.
