Japan's ruling camp loses upper house election: exit poll

TOKYO -?The exit poll of NHK revealed that the ruling camp of Japan failed to gain enough seats in Sunday's election to retain a majority in the upper house.
The ruling Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) garnered less than 50 seats in the election, far from the 54 seats the party targeted, the NHK said. Other media put the number at 47 to 48. The results are based on an exit survey in some 17,00 polling stations across the country.
The vote counting is under way and full official results are due out by Monday morning.
