JAKARTA-- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told the people not to worry about impacts of Japan's nuclear radiation, urging related ministries and agencies to explain thoroughly to the public about the efforts to tackle possible radiation in the country, local media reported here on Thursday.

"The clear-cut explanations from the related agencies were essential to make the public assure about their safety from the radiation and stay alert," the president said before opening a cabinet meeting held in the presidential office here. Efforts to tackle the possible nuclear radiation from Japan were discussed in the meeting.

He said that he had ordered the cabinet secretary, Technology and Research Bureau and National Atomic Agency to take necessary steps to convince the people about their security from the impact of Japan's nuclear radiation, the tempointeraktif.com. reported.

Earlier reports said that some Indonesian ministers already took measures in tackling possible nuclear radiation by tightening import procedures on products imported from Japan following the earthquake and tsunami disaster that damaged nuclear power plants in Fukushima.
