NEW DELHI - India Wednesday deferred test firing of two of its indigenously developed nuclear-capable Prithvi-II missiles because of technical snag, defense sources said.

"The missiles were to be test fired from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur near Balasore district in the eastern state of Orissa. But, the test firing has been postponed due to a technical snag," the sources said.

The next date will be decided after addressing the technical problem of the missile to be inducted into the Indian Army, they added.

Prithvi-II, first indigenously developed strategic missile by the Defense Research and Development Organization, was inducted into the armed forces. It was flight tested a number of times as part of regular user trials.

The single-stage, liquid-propelled missile is equipped with an advanced inertial navigation, control and guidance system and can carry a payload of 500 to 1,000 kg to a distance of 350 km.

The last trial of Prithvi-II missile was successfully carried out in September this year.
