US university dorm deemed safe after bomb threat

(Xinhua) Updated: 2012-09-19 14:03

HOUSTON - A dormitory at Arkansas State University (ASU) that was evacuated Tuesday following a bomb threat was deemed safe, and an arrest was made in connection with the case, US media reported.

The bomb threat came in Tuesday afternoon targeting the University Hall dorm, which houses nearly 400 students, and the building and a nearly one were immediately evacuated, according to Fox News.

University police conducted a room-by-room sweep of the building, but found no evidence of a bomb, and then students were allowed to return to the dorm, said the report.

A 44-year-old man who is not an ASU student has been arrested for allegedly making the bomb threat, university spokeswoman Gina Bowman was quoted as saying.

The ASU bomb threat came after similar threats were called in at Louisiana State University, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of North Dakota in Fargo in the past several days.

No explosives were found in the three cases, which also prompted campus evacuations.

ASU officials said they do not believe the ASU incident is related to the previous ones.
