Egypt ends travel ban imposed on Mubarak

Xinhua | Updated: 2013-03-04 04:09

CAIRO - Cairo Criminal Court decided Sunday to end a travel ban imposed previously on former regime figures including ousted President Hosni Mubarak, his wife Suzanne Thabet, his two sons Gamal and Alaa and their wives, state-run al-Ahram online newspaper reported.

The list also includes former Interior Minister Habib al-Adli, former presidential chief of staff Zakariya Azmy, and former Shura Council (upper house of parliament) speaker Safwat al-Sherif.

The decision also allows them to dispose of their funds and properties after they were prohibited to due to continuous investigations of the Public Funds Prosecution.

Mubarak is currently serving life imprisonment over responsibility for the killing of protesters in early 2011, while his two sons are in custody over corruption and profiteering charges. Neither Mubarak's wife nor his two step-daughters were detained although they are included in the list.

The Cairo Appeals Court has set April 13 to retry Mubarak, his two sons, al-Adli and his six assistants, official MENA news agency reported Sunday.
