Exhibitions to deepen understanding of Brunei

The ASEAN-China Center opened its fourth My ASEAN&China Multimedia Art Exhibition Series - Abode of Peace: Brunei on Monday, with the aim of deepening the understanding of the Islamic Southeast Asian country among Chinese young people.

The exhibition was held in Guizhou Normal University, and featured five oil paintings and more than 200 photos of Brunei shot by American-Chinese Artist Rita Zhao.

“Mutual understanding between peoples is the basis of bilateral ties,” said the center's Secretary-General Ma Mingqiang.

“There are not so many Chinese people who know about my country so far, because Brunei is not so widely publicized,” said Magdalene Teo, Brunei ambassador to China.

“The exhibition is a small window to show Brunei to Chinese people,” she said, hoping the exhibition can arouse curiosity among the Chinese public, especially the Chinese youth, about her country.

Brunei Darussalam is the chair country of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations from January to December.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between China and ASEAN.

Coinciding with the exhibition, the 6th China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week opened on Monday in Guiyang.
