BANGKOK - A group of anti-government protesters on Sunday laid siege to Thai caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's residence in the capital.

They are part of Sunday's mass rally led by former deputy prime minister Suthep Thaugsuban to force Yingluck to resign from the caretaking post.

Spokesman of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee Ekanat Prompan earlier put the turnout of protesters joining the rally at 2 to 3 million.

Yingluck is now outside Bangkok touring northeastern provinces.

Protesters are also planning to lay siege around a Bangkok stadium where candidate registration for the upcoming February 2 election will be held from Monday.

The major opposition Democrat Party, headed by former premier Abhisit Vejjajiva, resolved on Saturday to boycott the election.

The Pheu Thai Party, headed by Yingluck, is ready to field 125 party-list candidates, party spokesman Prompong Nopparit was quoted by Bangkok Post as saying on Sunday.
