A self-taught Australian baker has created incredible, scientifically accurate, planetary cakes of Earth and Jupiter.

Rhiannon Michell, 26, from Melbourne, can make planetary cakes with a core, mantle and crust with a level of detail usually reserved for classroom educational globes. It’s hard to believe that these replicas of Earth and Jupiter are completely edible.

The baker rose to the challenge when her school teacher sister, Sarah, asked her to create a delicious science model for her class to enjoy.

"At first I was fairly sure there was no way I could make it, but then my inability to admit defeat kicked in and I had to find a way to do it," she said.

The earth cake is about 30 centimeters in diameter, of which the innermost layer is almond cake, the interlayer is lemon Madeira cake and the outermost layer is orange Madeira cake. [Photo/IC]
