(Xinhua) Updated: 2016-05-06 22:01

GENEVA -- The World Health Organization (WHO) said Friday that three doctors and three nurses working in the northern Syrian town of Aleppo lost their lives as a result of recent attacks.

"There were five incidences against health facilities reported in recent weeks," WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said in a statement.

Amongst the healthcare personnel who lost their lives were a gynecologist, a pediatrician, a dentist and thee nurses.

Targeted shelling and bombings were also especially deadly for civilians in and around affected areas.

The attack on Al Quds hospital on April 27 killed at least 55 people including six staff members according to Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) which supports the hospital.
