VIENTIANE - China and Laos on Tuesday called for relevant parties to reach agreement on a code of conduct in the South China Sea at an early date and jointly build the busy water body into a sea of peace, friendship and cooperation.

The two sides made the appeal in a joint statement released as Chinese President Xi Jinping concludes his state visit to the Southeast Asian country.
