Shanghai a hotspot for career starters
Shanghai is the most popular city for fresh graduates to start their careers this year, according to a report released by Shanghai Jiao Tong University on Monday.
The report, based on the responses of 11,869 fresh graduates who received their bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees as of Nov 30, 2021, showed that around two thirds of the surveyed will start their careers in the city.
According to the report, nearly 60 percent of the graduates secured their jobs, more than twice the percentage of those who will further their study abroad (25.32 percent).
Career domains chosen by the graduates, according to the report, include computing science, manufacturing, education, and finance.
In addition, among the 2,058 graduates who will further their studies domestically, most of them will do so at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Others have been admitted to prestigious universities such as Fudan University, Tsinghua University and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The report showed that only 724 students have chosen to study outside the Chinese mainland, with the United States being the most popular destination - attracting 383 graduates from the university - followed by the United Kingdom.
