Subway passengers in Wuhan, Hubei province, need to have a negative result from a nucleic acid test done within 48 hours to take subways starting on Monday. The city reported new asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19 earlier this month.

Wuhan, which was hit hardest during the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, reported 12 new asymptomatic carriers on Sunday, 10 on Saturday and two on Friday.

To ensure passengers' safety on public transport, the subway operator is requiring passengers to have negative results and a green health code. They must also get temperature measurements, wear masks and scan the codes of subway cars to submit trip information, Wuhan Metro, the operator, said.

The city has reported new asymptomatic carriers for 10 consecutive days. One or two carriers reported in the beginning came from other provinces, the city's epidemic prevention and control headquarters said.

City officials held a conference on Sunday to arrange epidemic control work, aiming to quickly handle any emerging situations and contain the epidemic to the smallest scope possible.
