Shenzhen, Guangdong province, suspended two passenger ferry routes after the discovery of two locally transmitted asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19 on Saturday.

According to a notice released by Shenzhen transportation bureau on Sunday, the city suspended its passenger ferry service from Shekou port to Macao on Sunday. Ferry service to outlying islands of Lingdingyang in the estuary of the Pearl River was suspended on Monday.

The moves aim to prevent and control the spread of the coronavirus outside the city, the notice said, adding that a resumption of services will be announced later.

In Guangzhou, Guangdong, the local health commission is requiring all people who arrived in the city from Shenzhen since June 10 to report to the city's disease control and prevention departments and neighborhood committees to be tested.

Those who have symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat, diarrhea or fatigue are required to seek medical help immediately.

Shenzhen, which borders Hong Kong, has introduced measures to help block the spread of the coronavirus in local communities, including the launch of a district-wide testing campaign and setting up controlled zones in the city's Luohu and Futian districts.

The two asymptomatic carriers who were found in the city's Luohu and Futian districts on Saturday include a 49-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman. Both have been sent to a designated hospital for isolation and treatment.

Guangdong reported no new local COVID-19 infections on Sunday, said the provincial health commission on Monday.
