Measures have been implemented in the Pudong New Area in Shanghai to protect students attending the ongoing college entrance exams and the high school entrance exams to be held next week, as a locally transmitted COVID-19 case has been found in the area, according to local authorities.

The city reported one locally transmitted COVID-19 confirmed case outside of quarantine and lockdown communities on Friday. The Kangqiao Town in Pudong New Area, the residential neighborhood of the case, was listed as a high-risk area.

So far, 137 exam candidates are from high- and medium-risk areas in the region, Yan Bo, vice governor of the Area, said at a press conference on Friday. Those under centralized quarantine or with abnormal nucleic acid results took the exams at designated test sites.

Yan noted the prevention and control measures guarantee smooth transport on students' way to exam sites, and have closed-loop management and personnel transfer at emergencies related to COVID-19 before and during the exams.

A total of 81 designated nucleic acid sampling sites have offered services to all exam candidates who were required to take two nucleic acid tests within three days before the exam, according to Yan. Those living in medium- and high-risk areas can enjoy door-to-door testing services according to their needs, he said. He added that psychological consultation services are available for the examinees as well.
