In Chongqing, local virus transmission falls
The proportion of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases via community transmission in Chongqing on Tuesday was 36.2 percent — a 13 percent decrease from Monday, according to the municipal Health Commission.
The decrease means the policy of coordination that was implemented in the city's central urban districts has worked to some extent, said Li Pan, deputy director of the commission at a news conference on Wednesday.
According to the commission, the municipality reported 172 new local confirmed COVID-19 cases and 3,900 new asymptomatic carriers on Wednesday.
Li said there are currently a total of 1,396 confirmed cases under treatment in designated hospitals. Of those cases, five are severe, but the patients are in stable condition.
He said a total of 1,635 medical workers have been mobilized, and 4,898 beds, including those in the city's makeshift hospitals, have been put into use.
On Tuesday, residents in Chongqing were asked not to leave the city unless travel is urgent. Staying home helps prevent the spread of COVID-19 to other places.
