COVID-19 prevention and control measures need to be precisely and efficiently implemented in Chongqing to win the battle against the pandemic at an early date, Vice-Premier Sun Chunlan said during an inspection in the city recently, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Chongqing has made progress in epidemic prevention and control, with the proportion of new cases via community transmission in the city's total cases decreasing from 62.65 percent on Nov 12 to 7.2 percent on Wednesday.

Six districts and counties, including Chengkou and Fengjie counties and the Wansheng Economic and Technological Development Zone, have basically cleared community transmission, Xinhua reported.

Sun noted that it is necessary to provide medical and humanistic care by improving the nucleic acid testing plan based on the test results, improving transfer procedures, avoiding unnecessary processes and scientifically classifying and hospitalizing infected patients.

She also urged more infection risk investigation and prevention work in key places such as nursing homes, universities and prisons, as well as for delivery personnel.

On Thursday, the city reported 258 new confirmed local cases and 6,242 new asymptomatic carriers, the municipal health commission said on Friday. It has seen a decrease in infections since Wednesday, according to the commission.

New infections in Chongqing peaked in recent days and the momentum of the virus spreading has been curbed, said local medical expert Qiu Jingfu at Thursday's daily briefing.
