A Chinese mainland spokesperson strongly condemned the speech delivered by Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te on the so-called "Double Tenth Day", saying that it exposed his nature as a troublemaker and warmonger.

During Lai's speech on Friday, he said that China should stop distorting the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758, adding that the status-quo should be upheld and cross-Strait peace and stability should be maintained.

Lai also pledged to strengthen Taiwan's air defense capabilities and build a "T-Dome" system.

"Lai's speech called black white and tried to mislead the public," Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said. "He spread the rumor of democracy versus authoritarianism and again peddled the narratives of "Taiwan independence and secession", which distorted historical facts and international consensus."

Guo reiterated at a daily news briefing that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and this is the real status-quo across the Taiwan Strait.

The biggest threat to cross-Strait peace and stability is "Taiwan independence" separatist activities and external interference, Guo noted.

The Lai authorities attempted to fabricate various lies in order to advance its agenda for independence through military means, which will only push Taiwan into a dangerous conflict, he said.

Upholding cross-Strait peace and stability requires abiding by the One-China principle and unequivocally opposing "Taiwan independence", Guo said.

Guo was careful to categorize the Taiwan question as an internal affairs matter, expressing hesitancy in creating "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan", while calling any challenge to the historical facts and the Resolution 2758 "ridiculous and dangerous".

He urged a handful of foreign politicians who visited Taiwan to immediately stop interfering in China's internal affairs and stop emboldening or supporting "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
