Nearly 300 students and parents from Wellington College China's schools, as well as parents from other schools and industry leaders gathered at the Wellington College International Shanghai on Saturday for the inaugural Wellington College Education (China) Parents as Partners Conference.

At the event, school leaders and parents explored the wisdom and potential of collaborative education between schools and families.

In her address, Joy Qiao Ying, founder and chairman of Wellington College China, emphasized the evolving definition of talent in the context of profound global changes.

Drawing on the recent report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, or OECD, titled "Education for Human Flourishing: A Conceptual Framework", she identified core competencies essential for future talent: appreciating the world, understanding the world, acting in the world, ethical competence and adaptive problem solving.

"These competencies are not only skills that children should acquire as they grow, but also wisdom that parents need to cultivate and deepen through guidance and companionship," she said.

The event also featured discussions where parents shared their personal stories and professional experiences, exploring different perspectives on how to ignite children's intrinsic motivation.

Through this platform for mutual listening, the group aims to broaden channels of communication and show its commitment to assisting students and families as they advance together toward greater horizons.
