Tang Yijun, former Party secretary and chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was sentenced to life imprisonment for bribery, according to a court in Xiamen, Fujian province, on Monday.

The court found that from 2006 to 2022, Tang took advantage of his various positions, including governor of Liaoning province, Party chief of Ningbo in Zhejiang province and minister of justice, to seek benefits for organizations and individuals in matters such as company listings, land repurchases, bank loans, and case handling. In return, Tang illegally accepted property worth more than 137 million yuan ($19.7 million), reported CCTV.

The Xiamen Intermediate People's Court also deprived Tang of his political rights for life and ordered the confiscation of all his personal property. All illicit gains and related proceeds seized in the case will be turned over to the state treasury, while any shortfall will continue to be recovered.

The court held that Tang's actions constituted the crime of bribery and involved an extraordinarily large amount, causing particularly heavy losses to the interests of the state and the people, and should be punished in accordance with the law.
