As more travelers grow tired of generic internet cliches, what truly makes a destination memorable?
Having recently experienced firsthand how Yunnan's culture can make travel more memorable, China Daily reporter Yan An spoke with several deputies to the National People's Congress during this year's two sessions about how the province is exploring new ways to develop tourism.
NPC deputy Bamo, an expert in intangible cultural heritage, said sustainable tourism cannot be separated from its cultural roots. As the draft outline of China's 15th Five-Year Plan puts it, China aims to "shape tourism with culture and showcase culture through tourism."
