Happiness Project
A charity program sponsored by the China Population Welfare Foundation, a non-government organization, whose mission is to help mothers living in poverty in underdeveloped areas.
Started in 1995, the project grants micro-loans to qualified mothers so they can generate more income for their families. The project also offers training programs in farming and herding know-how and includes health checkups.
By the end of 2006, the project had distributed 401 million yuan to 171,760 mothers across the country.
