《青花瓷》的意味悠遠(yuǎn)深長(zhǎng)。它曾被慧眼識(shí)珠的中學(xué)語(yǔ)文老師，編入語(yǔ)文考試。2008年的山東高考試題，甚至還引用了其中的幾句歌詞：“素胚勾勒出青花筆鋒濃轉(zhuǎn)淡”、“色白花青的錦鯉躍然于碗底”。
青花瓷的英文，有現(xiàn)成的表達(dá)是the blue and white porcelain。前幾日，和一位美國(guó)大學(xué)生談及我正翻譯的《青花瓷》，聽到the blue and white，他的話鋒一轉(zhuǎn)，提到哥倫比亞大學(xué)的同名學(xué)生雜志The Blue and White。名字不知作何翻譯。“青花”？抑或“藍(lán)與白”？該雜志1890年創(chuàng)刊，封面藍(lán)白相間，風(fēng)格頗為淡雅。時(shí)事、政論、文化，包羅萬(wàn)象。
哥倫比亞大學(xué)的新聞學(xué)院排名世界第一，其學(xué)生主持的百年雜志，水準(zhǔn)可見一斑。尤其是2007年伊朗總統(tǒng)內(nèi)賈德在哥倫比亞大學(xué)演講，該雜志報(bào)道詳盡，名噪一時(shí)。
如此想來(lái)，一些意象，在人們心目中，出于不同文化背景，竟如此風(fēng)馬牛不相及。

The sky is blue enough to herald the rain,

is as delicate yet profound

The banana tree outside brings a sudden downpour;
while the copper knocker invites rust to cover all.
而我路過(guò)那江南小鎮(zhèn)惹了你
South of the river
I passed through the small town,
mindless of turning your life around.
在潑墨山水畫里 你從墨色深處被隱去
Melting into the depth of a landscape painting,
you faded out into the dark background.
