Handicapped man saved 22 people to repay favors

A handicapped man, who makes a living on a ferry boat crossing the Liu River, has saved 22 drowning people in 47 years, actions that are ways for him to thank the community in Rongjiang county, southwest China's Guizhou province, Xinhua reported.

Liang Yunquan, 66, was an orphan and became handicapped due to a childhood illness. The local villagers raised him and funded his treatment.

Since he become a ferryman at the age of 19, Liang's never charged villagers a coin to cross river. In the last 47 years, he's also rescued 22 drowning people and convinced many not to commit suicide beside the Liu River.

"I owed the villagers a lot and I saved people's lives to repay their favors," Liang said.
