Political advisers call for deeper study of Chinese national community theory
Political advisers have conducted research over the past year on key issues related to building the Chinese national community, offering recommendations to strengthen studies on the history of the Chinese nation and the theory of the Chinese national community, as well as to improve institutional mechanisms and legal frameworks, a spokesman said Tuesday.
Liu Jieyi, spokesman for the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said research has been carried out on issues to be addressed during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) period concerning the economic and social development of ethnic regions.
He said suggestions include developing industries with distinctive advantages and balancing economic growth with ecological protection to better integrate ethnic regions into the new development pattern.
Relevant departments have responded that the suggestions will be incorporated into the formulation of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), as the central government attaches great importance to encouraging people of all ethnic groups to unite in pursuing common prosperity and development, advancing the construction of the Chinese national community and promoting Chinese-style modernization, Liu said.
Liu made the remarks ahead of the annual session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, which will open Wednesday and conclude on March 11.
"With representatives from all 56 ethnic groups in China, the CPPCC has fully utilized this advantage by conducting activities to promote interaction, exchange and integration among ethnic groups," Liu said. "These activities are combined with inspections, surveys and discussions with grassroots officials and the public to explain the Party's ethnic policies and strengthen awareness of the Chinese national community."
He said the efforts are aimed at deepening consensus on shared blood ties, common beliefs, cultural exchange, economic interdependence and emotional bonds among ethnic groups.
Liu said efforts have also been made to strengthen awareness of the Chinese national community, improve institutional mechanisms and explore new approaches to the Sinicization and modernization of Marxist ethnic theory. Articles have been published to support the systematic development of the Communist Party of China's ethnic theory in the new era, he said.
In addition, in-depth consultations and discussions have been held on topics including leveraging cultural and museum resources to strengthen awareness of the Chinese national community, he said.
In 2026, the CPPCC will continue to conduct research on major strategic issues in ethnic affairs, strengthen ideological and political guidance, and work to consolidate awareness of the Chinese national community and advance its development, Liu said.
