China's CPPCC session to open Wednesday
The fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's top political advisory body, is set to open at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing at 3 pm on Wednesday and conclude on March 11, Liu Jieyi, spokesman for the session, said at a news conference on Tuesday.
During the 7-day session, around 2,100 national political advisers will review a report on the work of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and a report on how proposals have been handled since the previous annual session.
Members will also sit in on the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress, the country's top legislative body, as non-voting delegates to listen to and discuss the Government Work Report and other relevant reports.
The formulation of the 15th Five-Year Plan for the period from 2026 to 2030 will be a central focus of the session, and advisers' discussions will provide vital input on the country's major policies and the strategic goals.
Apart from the opening and closing ceremonies, the session also includes two plenary meetings for speeches, and multiple group discussions. Foreign diplomatic envoys in China have been invited to observe the session, and three sideline interviews attended by national political advisers will be held for media engagement.
Reflecting on the past year, Liu said, political advisers conducted extensive deliberations on the formulation of the 15th Five-Year Plan, the deepening of economic system reforms, and the development of new quality productive forces. Their discussions also covered expanding domestic demand, integrating culture and technology, and innovating social governance.
The CPPCC National Committee successfully completed its oversight tasks regarding the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2020-25), ensuring that the major decisions and strategic deployments of the nation were effectively realized, he said.
Advisers worked on the front lines to witness national achievements, reflect public demands, and propose countermeasures. They submitted nearly 20,000 reports concerning various industries and social groups, providing vital support for the government's scientific and democratic decision-making, according to him.
