Tourists flocked to the world's tallest bridge in Southwest China's Guizhou province to celebrate Lantern Festival, the final day of Chinese New Year.

During the holiday, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge scenic area received about 550,000 visits, including roughly 78,000 people who entered the bridge for sightseeing. The bridge deck sits 625 meters above the water.

Opened to traffic in September last year, it has attracted steady visitor interest and recorded its first peak during the holiday.

To mark the structure's first Chinese New Year since opening, the operator staged traditional activities such as pounding glutinous rice cakes and guessing lantern riddles.

As part of the national expressway network, the bridge draws many self-driving visitors and travelers stopping en route, according to the operator.

Beyond the engineering spectacle of a deep-gorge span, visitors come for on-bridge outdoor attractions such as glass walkways and observation platforms with suspended views. Bungee jumping and edge walks on an unrailed ledge are available for thrill-seekers.
