Choayang district in Beijing, one of China's largest districts in terms of GDP, revealed an ambitious target to build 100 science and technology parks in the next five years.

Nie Jieying, head of the district, announced on Tuesday at a quality development conference that by the end of the 15th Five-year Plan period (2026-30), the evolution of 100 parks will drive the district to become a model of new productive forces and an international science and tech innovation center.

To date, the district is home to 23 industrial, commercial, and science parks. The new parks are expected to significantly expand and strengthen modern industries, including AI, industrial internet, technology services, Web 3.0, digital healthcare, data assets, digital security, intelligent robotics, and smart wellness.

"Additionally, we are accelerating our efforts to establish a presence in emerging fields like quantum information, aerospace, brain-computer interfaces, synthetic biology, and digital energy," she said.

Last year, Chaoyang's GDP hit 966.9 billion yuan ($139.7 billion), she said, setting a goal to surpass 1 trillion yuan in 2026.
