Volunteers provide support services for 70th anniversary celebrations in capital

More than 160,000 volunteers will provide support services for events in Beijing celebrating the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, the volunteers' headquarters said.
It said the high-quality volunteers had been recruited from universities, residential communities, enterprises and other social sectors.
More than 10,000 will assist the celebration ceremony in Tian'anmen Square on the morning of Oct 1, and the gala at the square and along Chang'an Avenue in downtown Beijing that night. The others will contribute to mass celebration activities in parks around the capital and the operation of public services, Xiong Zhuo, executive commander of the headquarters, said at a news conference on Wednesday.
He said about 63 percent of the volunteers around Tian'anmen Square were from the post-1990 generation, with another 30 percent born in the new millennium.
Xiong said many of the young volunteers were exemplary and influential representatives of the younger generations.
